Do you have some spare time, and a LOVE of cats or dogs?

Come and volunteer for us!

Volunteering

Volunteers are an invaluable resource to us as a self-funded charity. We rely on the contribution of volunteers to fulfil a variety of roles across the branch. This could be working directly with the animals at the animal centre, at one of our three charity shops raising vital funds for the charity, or out and about hosting fundraising events for us.

We are always looking for bright and enthusiastic people, who are committed to helping animals in need, to join our branch as volunteers. If this sounds like you then please get in touch with the centre and ask for an application form. We do try to get in touch with applicants as soon as possible but this can be delayed if there are a large number of applications so please be patient and we will contact you as soon as possible.

Please find links below to download the volunteer job description for the role, or roles, you are interested in.

Please note you must be over 18 to volunteer for our branch as per our licensing policies.

If you are under 18 and looking to gain experience working with animals we would recommend reaching out to other non-RSPCA animal charities, pet shops and boarding kennels/catteries, as their insurance policies may be different.

Testimonials

Cattery Assistant

“I’ve been volunteering for over a year, and it’s the best thing I signed up for. I truly enjoy spending time with the cats. It’s very rewarding to see the cats that were shy when they first arrived, and then leave going to a new home, with more confidence and personality come out.”

“I retired from work seven years ago and started to volunteer at the RSPCA Preston & District Branch. I absolutely love spending my spare time at the centre, sometimes two hours a day, sometimes eight. I get to walk dogs, cuddle cats and also drive the van. The staff are lovely.

I always say I get more from being a volunteer than I give. Volunteering helps you engage with people outside of your home. If you struggle with your mental health, it helps you focus on other things and walking various dog breeds certainly helps your physical fitness. I recommend volunteering to everyone. Give something back.”

Kennel Assistant and Treat Baker

“This will be my 6th year volunteering at the centre and I can’t think of anywhere else I would like to be.

I love seeing the staff transform the dogs and cats ready for their new homes, and I know I am a part of that. We rescued our dog Skylar from the Preston branch.”

“Volunteering some of my time to help out the dedicated staff in caring for abused and neglected animals has been the best for me. Wish I'd done it years ago!

Love spending time with the animals to help them get ready for adoption to their new homes.”
