Meet Velvet, our gorgeous 4-year-old domestic shorthair. Velvet came to us when her owner went into care. She was quite the spicy character in the cattery, very reactive to being handled and slightly erratic in her behaviour!
Luckily, we had some super fosterers on hand who were willing to take Velvet into their home and see what she was like in a home environment… and within a day we received an email asking if we had sent them the right cat! Velvet found herself at home quite quickly and proceeded to explore every corner of the house including cupboards and drawers!
Velvet is described by her fosterers as ‘a mixture of independent and clingy’ – she sometimes likes to relax by herself but other times she likes to follow them from room to room. Most of the time she’s happy to be stroked but if not, she will let you know gently. She can be picked up and moved, but does not want to be cuddled or carried! She loves to be brushed.
She is not an overly playful cat but she will play in short bursts, and prefers pieces of litter and shoelaces to actual toys! Velvet’s little quirk is that she wags her tail! Which was of concern to us initially as it usually means ‘I’m very angry!’ but it turns out that is her way of showing excitement!
Velvet is very keen to get outside so we will be looking for a new home in a safe area where she can go adventuring once she has settled in. As Velvet can be startled by household noises, she will need a quiet, calm household without children.
