Say hello to the Fantastic Mr. Fox our 5-year-old lurcher cross.
Fox is a laid-back boy and came to us through no fault of his own. It was clear he had lacked human interaction and was a little unsure at first but over time he has come to trust his handlers and settled well in to kennel life.
He enjoys being out and about and takes things in his stride and he is also calm and relaxed in his kennel but at first, he mainly used his kennel to urinate in but he is now learning he does not need to do this.
He will tolerate fuss and strokes and is improving on this every day. At first when being handled he would be unsure of your intentions and is a little sensitive to some areas being over handled but he is now happy being groomed and brushed and due to his coat, he will need a good brush from time to time.
He is learning to trust us and allow us to handle him like putting his harness on, picking him up to put him in the car and giving him fuss. He can be a little unsure of new people at first but does not take long to come round and he enjoys treats so this is great to help him build trust.
Fox knows basic commands and he has shown no negative responses to being out and about and is laid back and walks well on lead. We have introduced toys to fox and he does show a little bit of interaction and play but not a lot yet.
Fox has been introduced to dogs that he knows but can be a bit full on so he will need training going forward to learn how to be calmer around them.
Fox has also recently spent time in a foster home to give us an idea of how he would cope with everything and he has settled well despite some initial scent marking due to his previous living conditions but he is learning to do this outside more now. He has had no negative reactions to household objects but was a little unsure and anxious of the car to begin with but he has now got used to it. He has become a bit more reactive to seeing other dogs now so this will need continued work with his new family, and he will still need a bit of time and patience around new people.
Fox is now ready to put his best foot forward and find his future home and continue the work needed to let him settle into his new life.
Fox is looking for an adult-only home as the only pet in the house where he can get the one on one training he needs.
This assessment is ongoing and may change in the future.
