Introducing Avril, our beautiful 7 year old Dachshund.
This lovely lady has not had the nicest start to her stay with us in kennels. She lost her elderly partner shortly after arriving here. Understandably, as a result, she can be occasionally vocal and unsettled in kennels. She must have been feeling lonely!
However, she has started making friends with our other dogs and they often go on offsite walks together. Avril enjoys her walks, and she enjoys exploring. This is great as she has previously had a bit of a weight issue, but no longer! Avril went to a few hydrotherapy sessions, and after a diet change also, she has shed these extra pounds and now looks and feels fantastic just in time for summer!
Avril’s future owners will need to make sure she stays nice and lean though, as excess weight can be quite damaging for her breed and staying at a good weight will help to keep her pain free and happy.
Avril can be a sassy lady when it does come to her appearance. She does not appreciate her teeth being looked at but she has previously had dental issues which must have caused her pain. She is on the mend now though after some dental work and TLC. Avril is a bit of a foodie which is very helpful with her training, ad will surely be a great tool for any future dental checks!
Avril loves a good cuddle and scratch but she does also have an independent side. She is unbothered by strangers and other dogs, which has made her a great little helper for dog introductions and dog socials as she is so chill. She enjoys playing with soft toys, and she loves a good nibble on her teddies!
Due to Avril’s health considerations, she would be best suited to a home with children 11+.
She could live with another dog, as long as introductions go well here at the centre, but Avril would prefer a household with no cats.
This assessment is ongoing and subject to change.
